Duke’s House no. 44 - an intense purple that can appear almost black in certain lights - has been used to define the entrance and exit arches to boldly punctuate the beginning and end of the exhibition.
Plum Tree no. 283 - a rich burgundy - draws out Sargent’s use of purple tones to create light and shade. This dark hue was chosen for its intensity to create drama and contrast as a backdrop for the watercolours.
